Wainscoting in an historic home
Wainscoting is fairly common in older Asheville homes, because our ancestors knew how well a chair railing can protect a wall.
It's ideal for any place where furniture gets bumped around, such as kitchens, dining rooms, offices and living rooms.
It's also suitable for areas that get heavy traffic, such as entryways and narrow hallways.
The wainscoting shown on this page was installed in an historic home in the Grove Park neighborhood. This room was a small, plain office that didn't have much architectural interest compared to the rest of the house.
We copied the pattern from the adjacent dining room, and we were thrilled to find the same pattern in pre-milled lumber from our local hardware store, which saved our customer on manufacturing costs. The new trim detail really makes the room.
If you've got a space that's a little bit boring... or a spot where the walls keep getting damaged... give us a call. We've got the old-fashioned remedy for your room.
